Durable coating for concrete runways

Runways and landing strips with the FL8SAFE coating require considerably shorter intervals between flight operations. This means more cost-effective operation thanks to more flights. The longevity of the coating not only saves airport operators a multitude of maintenance tasks, but also enables longer service life. Furthermore, the reduced use of de-icing agents ensures cost savings.

Safety

The high level of grip between tyres and the runway or landing strip surface guarantee maximum safety. FL8SAFE enhances grip and shortens braking distances. Even in the case of wet conditions, slush or frozen hoar frost, grip is maintained and longer braking distances are not required. FL8SAFE also helps to improve the directional stability of aircraft in crosswinds.

Operational benefit

FL8SAFE helps to routinely handle a high volume of flight movement at airport hubs. Once the high-tech coating has been applied, maintenance work is less frequent, downtime is reduced, and flight delays due to extreme weather conditions are less common. This enables the airport operators to plan ahead more efficiently.

Environmental protection

FL8SAFE is now recyclable and is reprocessed into asphalt coatings. POSSEHL Spezialbau has been producing its special coating completely free of tar since 1996 and on the basis of epoxy resin since 2021; it is also free of nonylphenol since 2022. More and more renewable materials are being used in the production of the epoxy resins and coatings used. In addition, FL8SAFE can reduce the need for liquid de-icing agents by up to 50 per cent for airport operators.
